Choices

Every day life presents us with a choice.  But first, we have to acknowledge this choice exists.  This realization could happen in an instant or take years of dismantling our beliefs.

Either way, the choice exists and when we are ready, we must select the one that fits us best.

This is simple but our minds may not be ready to see it as so.

I finally see the choices clearly.  One has me part of the world, fighting each day for peace in my heart.  The other holds the stairs that will transcend me beyond the world.  If I remain in the fight, it will appear I am not alone.  If I choose the stairs, it will appear I am completely alone.

The choices are real, but the assumptions I have about them are false.

The stairs hold True Connection.  The world holds everything else.

Either choice does not fit me.

Both break my heart in different ways.

I am not ready to choose.

I am adrift in my indecision.

All I am ready to do is honor my confusion.

So, I sit at this bend in my spiritual road and rest for a while.

All decisions in the world symbolically reflect exactly where I am.  If you are tired and you are confused, come and rest with me for a while.

We will wait here together.

Suffering as Grace

There is a difference between pain and suffering.

Pain is a natural result of an emotional or physical injury.  It is contained to a specific act or event.  If pain is left to its own devices, it will run its course and return the injured party to peace.

Suffering happens when we argue with our pain.  When we label pain or judge it harshly, it begins to bleed on to our character, our hopes and our dreams.  We suffer deeply as a result.  Immersed in this complexity, our hearts are cut off from Love.

Pain, though uncomfortable, quickly moves through us.  Pain has a purpose.  Pain will help us return to wholeness.

In contrast, suffering spreads like hot lava until we forget we were ever whole.  The burning edges of it singe every facet of our existence.

There are things our eyes cannot see and our hearts cannot know until will break ourselves free from old ways of thinking.

Sometimes we need to demolish these patterns through suffering.

Take heart for what remains is deliverance.

The Fine Mist

Happiness is the last, great illusion to crumble before we accept our Truth.

Happiness is a fine mist that covers our Vision.  There is no way to sustainably grasp it.  The wisps we catch evaporate before they solidify.

There is a burden attached to finding this happiness.  We often do not notice it until it begins to break apart our understanding of the world.  Usually, when an ultimate goal or dream is achieved and we are left empty and hollow, then the whispers of Truth grow louder.

We have no business being happy.

We have every right to be free.

Whatever we choose each day defines our spiritual goals.  Each choice has its wisdom.  Each way leads to Love.

Choose the one that makes you whole in the moment.

It is okay to choose happiness.  Truth does not ask you to let go of something you want.

Truth does not ask anything of you.

You only have to ask yourself what feels most True.

Choose that.

Nothing Was the Same

Dawn crept through the curtains and stirred her to wakefulness.  The haze of sleep clung to her and made her forget, at least for a second or two, that nothing was the same.

In a rush that left her breathless, she remembered.

Her world was like an upside-down snow globe that shook with fury.  She could not right herself no matter how hard she tried.

Nothing was the same.

Where she lived, who she knew and even the sky above her kept changing and swirling.

Whatever she grasped left as quickly as it arrived.

Nothing was the same.

Her heart burst open to the newness that surrounded her every breath, her every step.

Life was transforming for her.  Life was leading her to a brighter awareness.  One that relied less on things not changing and more on the things that do.

Change made her wary but it also made her strong.

She was not ready to see her rebirth in those first rays of the morning sunlight.  She only could accept that nothing was the same.

She snuggled down deep into the folds of her bedclothes and made a promise to herself.

If the snow globe that contained her life needed to unfurl in unexpected ways, she would not judge where or how the pieces settled.

All she had to do was let them do so without interference.

Her fate was no longer hers.

She exhaled.

That was all she could do.

The Rising Tide

Imagine sitting in a small rowboat as it fills with water.

The water is our fear.

We cup our hands into it and toss it away again and again.

Is it any wonder that we are hurting and tired?

Sometimes, we think those with less water in their boats are more frightening than the water itself.

So what do we do?

We attack them with our words and our deeds.  We try to shame them into having the same amount of fear/water we possess.

There comes a time when our arms tire from all the fearful judgments we fling outward.  Our minds then fuzz over with exhaustion from trying to sink everyone but ourselves.

What happens then?

Do we then sink?  Or, do we rise up with the tide and let Love carry us?

Maybe consider Love today.

It will carry us through no matter how deep the water.

She Is the Sky

Through a lifetime, the person I believed I was walked through the world alone.  There was something about her that did not belong.  It was as if a wall of thick ice surrounded her.

This chill kept others away.

She became a great pretender.  She had many stretches where she used her intuitive empathy to emulate those around her.  She could suspend herself in this false belonging, but only for short bursts.

When these illusions crumbled, she was once again left with that cold block of soul she lugged around.  She carried it to many corners of the world hoping belonging would find her there.

After years of listless wandering, the cold began to overtake her.  No matter what she did to warm herself, her heart remained frozen until one day it shattered completely.

She stood in the middle of the craggy shards of who-she-used-to-be and believed she was lost forever.

Years went by and she remained lost.

Years.

Without her knowledge, a drastic change had occurred.  While she still always felt cold and continued to repel others, it did not matter as much to her.

Along the way, because life had broken her so much, she had given up the pretending.  This meant more illusions of belonging had to fall away from her life, but what remained was solid and true.

As she let go of wanting to be loved by many, she also began to let go of the solid and true few that loved her as she was.

To her relief, they stayed close.

Every day she celebrates the love that shows up to find her.

Every day she works to release her expectations of what that love should look like.  Not surprisingly, she always has enough.

She always had enough, but she could not see it.  Not while she focused on belonging where she did not.

Where she stands now, she is everything all at once.

She is fire and ice.  She is light and dark.

She is the sky.

She is hope.

She is no one.

She is all of us.

She is You.

Beyond Wonder

You do not choose to no longer identify as a self in the world.  Never condemn yourself for something so impossible.  You have already shown great courage but welcoming in a new way of understanding.  This is enough.

You are enough.

It is less about choosing and more about letting go.

Let go of the holy process of undoing the self.

Your willingness to see beyond it was all that was needed.

What a marvel you are.

Yet, do not get stuck in your own wonder.  Every last person alive can have this willingness.

There has always been an invitation available to us.  It was our birthright.

It was given to all of us.

Letting go of the self seems impossible if we feel responsible for it.  We bump into error when we think our specialness lies in our ability to transcend the world while we still are a part of it.

We are not the doers.

Our holy selves do the work.

We only choose to allow for this work to happen or we stay grounded in the belief that we are human.

Both choices are lovely expressions of being.  One is not more true than the other.

If you love your life as it is, if it makes sense, then there is nothing more to be done.

If you feel life is more than what we appear to know, rest in knowing that while hard work seems to lie ahead, you are not alone.
